Secondly, they guided me through the innumerable choices I had to make, at a pace that didn’t overwhelm me, without pressuring me. And the finished product is more beautiful than I had imagined. To top it off, I was able to move back into my home a mere 7 days after their projected completion date.

• We had been considering and planning on building a new house for a good number of years before we finally decided to have Conner & Buck begin this major life event. We never imagined how costly, challenging and time-consuming the project would be for us. But working with you made all these issues worthwhile and “bearable”. Then, just before Christmas, we moved into a house that far surpassed anything we had imagined in terms of design and quality.

Chris, you helped with planning and contingencies from the time of our first on-site meeting. Understanding our desires helped you and us to choose the best design firm for our needs. You worked closely with Milford and Kelley from Cushman Designs to make sure that we were listened to, to try to control costs, and to facilitate design changes when we needed them. You began your detailed budget process early in the game, and gave it close attention until the very end. Our only surprises were positive ones!
You know how to involve the client according to his/her desire to participate. We never felt that our questions or suggestions were bothersome to you, or unworthy of your full attention. Finally, it was fun and gratifying to see you as thrilled and pleased with Conner and Buck’s work as we are. You and your crew are artists in your field: you don’t just slap together a structure, you craft a beautiful space. You never lost sight of your aim to create a space that will be, not just a house, but a home. We love the home that all of you created for us.

•I will get right to the point: Conner and Buck are simply the best. I had heard that from former C&B clients, and now add my voice to that chorus. I loved working with Chris and his team through every phase of our project. The process was always collaborative, respectful, and quite frankly, enjoyable. And the product is even more wonderful than I had imagined it would be. The addition they built for our 1860 farmhouse is beautiful, and the kitchen that they miraculously renovated in the week we were away, literally took my breath away.
Chris has built a remarkable team. There is a C&B culture of comradery, mutual respect, and a shared, strong work ethic. To a person, those in the office and those on-site, are professional, thoughtful (in both senses of the word) and responsive. I always felt listened to, and better yet, understood. On top of that, they are fun.
Would I want Chris and team to work on any future project? YES. Do I recommend them to any reading this testimonial? I DO.

• Working with Conner & Buck has been a unique experience. To have a project come in under budget and on time is rare in the construction industry, but it happened. Frequent emails and photos were a great comfort as out-of-state owners, making the final product exactly what we hoped for.

• We came to Conner and Buck with several main goals: to downsize, to have an accessible house where it would be easy for us to live on one floor if necessary, to fit in with the existing homes on our street, and to build a structure with the insulation, air-tightness, and passive-solar potential to be net-zero.Click to read more …

Not only were all these desires amply fulfilled but the beautiful workmanship throughout now makes living in this house truly delightful. Conner and Buck were also particularly skilled at integrating the solar panels, heat-pumps, and air-exchange system that make it such a snug and efficient dwelling. Finally, we want to mention these wonderful builders’ commitment to communication from start to finish of the process. It prevented surprises about either the timing or the budget and sustained a collaborative, trusting feeling that we valued very much.

People who know construction can see it in the details and quality of finish, and people who aren’t in the business perceive it, too – the quality just feels right and makes an impression. The C&B team has the patience and temperament that makes it a pleasure to work with. I like to work a lot of salvaged materials into my projects, energy efficiency is paramount, and I take a strong role in the design process. C&B welcomes and encourages my involvement. Communication is clear and timely, and budgeting is realistic. That means there are rarely any unpleasant or expensive surprises during the building process – a real difference from other contractors who might bid low to get a project, but wind up blowing the top off the budget during the project.
As I contemplate new building projects in the future, there is only one contractor I think about using – Conner & Buck.

We completed our third major project with Conner & Buck in June of 2011. The first started and finished in 2008 with Phase I and required replacing the entire roof structure of the main part of our vintage post and beam home.
The solution was an innovative one that involved preassembling the new scissor trusses and roof decking on the ground, and then hoisting the completed structure onto the house with a crane. That summer was a rainy one and the dry-weather window of opportunity for removing the old roof, lifting on the new and making it weather-tight was a matter of hours. There was no room or time for error. It was a nerve-wracking day as the entire house lay open to the skies, but in spite of a few unforeseen hiccups, everything went precisely as planned. The new roof and dormers were installed in one day, and was made rainproof by the end of the next. We were forever sold on the genius, innovation, quality, and care of Conner & Buck Builders. The rest of Phase I involved installing new siding, replacing windows, laying a standing-seam roof, blowing in cellulose insulation, and more. We were impressed with the craftsmanship and attention to detail including the on-site milling of mahogany window sills, as well as with the excellent subcontractors.
Phase II was completed in December of 2011 and involved demolishing and then rebuilding the entire back half of our house. What started out as a worn out, foundationless, single-story shed-roof structure turned into a finely crafted, well-insulated, beautiful, new and spacious two-story home. A project of this undertaking could be the undoing of a marriage at worst, or the fraying of relationships and breaking of the bank at best. We are happy to say that working hand in hand with Chris and the entire team resulted in none of the above. We were pleasantly surprised by the feeling of friendship we developed with everyone who had a hand in the project, and found that when the work was done we missed having the crew on site day after day. In fact, we came away from both of these dramatic renovations feeling a strong bond with the entire team. But that’s what happens when you work with Conner & Buck.
As if two renovations were not enough, we signed up with Conner & Buck one more time this past spring to restore our three-story barn, whose foundation was on the verge of collapsing. The barn needed to be readied in time for our daughter’s wedding in August. Needless to say, the work was done with the usual high quality we have come to expect, and it was completed on time and under budget. The new foundation has extended the barn’s life and has added new dimensions to its versatility and utility. It was an integral part of the wedding venue and was connected to the main tent and received as many compliments as did the house. We couldn’t be happier with how it (and the wedding) turned out
We sing the praises of Conner & Buck to anyone who will listen, and proudly wear their hats and tees. It’s hard to imagine there’s a finer collection of personalities and talent under a single contractor's roof. Thank you everyone…Chris, Larry, Barbara, John, Pam, Pete, Aaron, Russ, Clark, Mike, Steve, and everyone else who contributed their time and skill to transforming our home.

• We wish we had another project to work on with the Conner & Buck team… We planned to add six feet to our living room, completely renovate the kitchen, add a powder room and a bathroom, and refinish some of our walls and ceilings. The C&B team was able to do all this but brought so much more to the project because they developed a relationship with us and understood what we were looking for…Their ideas and creative input resulted in features and details we had never thought of… It was a pleasure working with Chris, who communicated clearly and often with us about the progress, and who was more concerned with not exceeding the budget than we were!Click to read more …

The C&B team was able to do all this but brought so much more to the project because they developed a relationship with us and understood what we were looking for…Their ideas and creative input resulted in features and details we had never thought of: a ton of storage room we certainly needed, a way to separate the main water and heating systems from the living area, methods to match the older and newer woodwork, and many more… It was a pleasure working with Chris, who communicated clearly and often with us about the progress, and who was more concerned with not exceeding the budget than we were! In the office, Pam made it possible for us to go through the painful process of picking appliances, hardware, roof and wall finishes, light and bathroom fixtures, etc., despite the fact that we were virtually never in Vermont at the time…Only once did they insist that we be physically present to make a decision and that was to select the Vermont slate for the kitchen countertop. The craftsmanship and care that has been put into our home is superb…You can’t find more honest, knowledgeable, patient, and likeable people to work with than the Conner & Buck crew! We LOVE the house… Also, knowing that they will be here if anything happens that needs attention in the future, makes us feel very relaxed. Every time we have guests they rave about the house!
We have to thank our architect for suggesting Conner and Buck to us. We cannot imagine a smoother process and better outcome.

Our experience with Conner and Buck was altogether positive. The addition they built on our old farm house was not a particularly large or complicated project for them, but we felt that they gave it their full attention, finishing on schedule and within the budget. Chris met with us weekly over the course of several months, gathering our ideas, developing a budget, explaining the work phases, and helping with the choices to be made along the way. The only surprise in the whole process came when Chris presented us with a check at our final meeting because they had made some savings in the budget and we had overpaid!
The carpentry crew was great to have around – always polite and respectful (even tolerating our spirited dog) – as well as being highly skilled. The finished product is a beautiful, cozy, light room that is easy to heat and cool and where we now spend most of our time. They did create one problem for us: what to do with the rest of the house?!
Conner & Buck’s secret to success is their team of skilled people, combined with careful project management and constant communication with everyone involved. For the customer, that boils down to a great outcome and peace of mind. And maybe some new friends, too.
Thanks to the whole C&B crew!

• We have used Conner & Buck for two significant renovation and construction projects. The first was an elaborate and difficult project including moving an old house to a new location. This required extensive and unique problem solving and planning. We were happy enough with Conner & Buck’s performance that we engaged them for a second project 5 years later! Again, we had great results. Thank you.

Furthermore, being completely inexperienced with building a house from start to finish, we wanted ideas, recommendations and guidance.
From the selection of a design, siting, and selection of materials through the details of construction and final grading, we were impressed with Conner and Buck’s attention to detail and quality workmanship as well as always being helpful, thorough and very easy to work with. Their crew and subcontractors were professional and talented, pleasant to talk with and kept the worksite clean and orderly from beginning to end.
And, although schedule and budget were concerns of ours starting out, we soon realized that Chris was on top of those from the beginning and he kept us apprised regularly as to where things stood, both schedule-wise and budget-wise. At the end, the original schedule was met and the cost was well within budget!
We couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome.
Beginning with the day we first met with Chris in Conner & Buck’s offices to inquire about their services until the final days of construction and landscaping, we have only had high praise for their knowledge, design sense and ability to turn a blueprint into reality. Whenever we receive compliments on our lovely home, we have been happy to recommend Conner & Buck.

• Conner & Buck hit a home run in designing and building our dream home. It was a pleasure to work with Chris and crew from early ideas to finish nails. Each step along the way, we felt confident and reassured that we had picked the right team. So much careful thought, planning and execution went into our house. It is a pleasure to now live and raise our family in a space that from every angle is beautiful and functional. We highly recommend working with Conner & Buck. It was the best building decision we ever made.

I heard recently about someone working on a TV show that is entitled something like “To Catch a Contractor”. As you might guess, it’s about tracking down deadbeat contractors who have taken people’s money and left without doing the work. You just did the opposite! I know a lot of people have had this negative experience, and I know people personally who have had this experience. But I couldn’t help but reflect on OUR experience with you all. We couldn’t have had a more different experience than the people on this show have had. Not only do we love our new home now, but we are so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with a group of people who are so professional, attentive, skilled and talented…not to mention, you’re just a goddamned good looking crew!
Thank you Chris, and thanks to the whole C&B crew.
We’re glad to have you in our lives!

From the very moment we met with Chris to the last day of our project he created an environment that helped us to feel confident that our new addition would be built in a way that fit the description we had detailed to him. While working closely with us and offering up suggestions about design, he was also sensitive to what we wanted for the structure. Paul and I would like to personally thank Chris for his thoughtfulness, kindness and thoroughness throughout the entire process.
Rarely does the outcome exceed one’s expectations but I must say that in this case it has. The building experience went as smooth and uneventful as a house construction event could have been. From the first budget design meeting, to the sub-contractors, to the incredible, competent and polite work crew, it all fell into place like a perfect puzzle. Aside from your own work scheduling commitments, everyone involved had the patience and understanding to allow Paul to do his share on his time schedule so that we could cut some of our own building costs to stay within our budget. The resulting product is just gorgeous and incredibly warm. Whoever sees it can only compliment and praise the craftsmanship. It really is a dream come true.
We both want to thank you for an incredible job, incredibly well done. Over the years you have evolved into an amazing company that is personal, trustworthy and conducts itself with utmost integrity. It makes me smile to know that our son, Ocean, worked with you and Larry when your company was still young, and you were both still swinging a hammer. It kind of feels like it’s all in the family. A good foundation is where it all started.
Thanks again to an amazing group of people.

We cannot imagine a better outcome, and there is probably no other company that would have been able to work so seamlessly with us, and our old house. It was a treat to have Steve, Aaron, Russ and C&B’s fine subcontractors working here. I cannot get over how professional, pleasant and positive every one of them was. All were willing to work patiently through a myriad of questions and challenges until each time we found an excellent solution. The dedication to quality workmanship was evident every step of the way. C&B’s efficient and ever-helpful office staff ensured that the complexities of scheduling, finding and locating materials, and coordinating various aspects of the renovation went smoothly. They kept the project on time and within budget. Peter and I have never taken on a project this big, but we have had friends who have, and many have complained or been sick of the workers before it was time for them to go. My message to them: “You should have hired Conner and Buck.” C&B delivered not only a fantastic project but a terrific experience as well. And now we get to enjoy our new old house.

We enjoyed the team of excellent carpenters that worked on our house; their fine workmanship is evident in every detail, from smoothly-fitting doors to perfectly-joined moldings. We felt privileged to have such topnotch craftsmen working on our house. Conner & Buck sets high standards for its workers, and has instituted particular techniques (like painting the cut ends of every trim piece and clapboard) that we came to think of as "the Conner & Buck way".
We appreciated receiving regular, detailed budget reports, so that we always knew how much we had spent, how much was left to pay, and how the money had been used. We were glad to be given ample lead-time and a budget for items that we needed to select ourselves, (lighting and plumbing fixtures, door hardware, brick and tile) so that we could make these choices in an unhurried way. We liked knowing where we stood financially at every step of the way.
We especially enjoyed weekly meetings in which we discussed the many details of design and construction. We looked forward to these meetings as the highlight of every week, and enjoyed the lively debates over everything from mechanical systems and trim details to energy-efficiency and air circulation. Larry’s thorough knowledge of the latest advances in materials, systems, and construction methods made these conversations interesting and informative. He was also willing to research new ideas as they came up. Never shy about expressing his own opinions, Larry was also aware of and responsive to our particular tastes and sensibilities.
Our house project represented some unusual challenges as it was a complete rebuild after a house fire. Anxious to replace what we had lost, and to replicate the historic character of a 19th century Vermont farmhouse, we were exacting customers. Conner & Buck were fully knowledgeable about the historic features of this period, and helped us to reproduce them in our new house.
Some of the most beautiful features in our house were designed by Conner & Buck. In fact, every craftsman in the team that built our house contributed in some way to its beauty and functionality. If we had to do it again, we’d choose Conner & Buck without a moment’s hesitation.

Conner & Buck easily surpassed my expectations. For many people, building a home can be a nerve-wracking experience. There are endless decisions, some with significant financial implications. Inevitably, with projects this big, there are unanticipated complications, and compromises must be made. Yet throughout the process, C&B managed to take the burden off my shoulders, leaving me to fully enjoy the experience. They were unwaveringly professional and helpful’ they were also a constant resource for great design ideas.
In addition, the company is unusual, I believe, in the freedom they give their clients to purchase items for installation and even to participate in some aspects of the construction. This degree of freedom allowed us to keep the project within my budget.
Although the project has been completed now for over three years, Conner & Buck continues to be an invaluable resource. I suppose the strongest endorsement I can give is to say that if I were to start over again from scratch, I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Perhaps our first project was the most demanding of all those completed. It involved joining and connecting two early 19th century buildings into our home with attached workshop/studio.
Chris and Larry, as well as their entire crew, were sensitive to the period style issues while making the whole thing comfortable and easy to live in. They worked with new and recycled materials, always providing a structurally sound and aesthetically appealing result.
As for those qualities that anyone seeking a contractor is looking for, we found the following:
• all bulding options were discussed before the work began(i.e. suggested materials and alternatives, including advantages, pricing, etc.)
• pricing was explained and discussed and a clear budget was established
• work schedules were met and subcontractors were informed of all scheduling needs, avoiding delays
• as work progressed, materials and procedures were discussed at regular intervals, billing was clear and reflected the original budget
• all crew members were professional and hard working
• all subcontractors were professional and their work was reviewed for quality
• we were continually asked for input and felt very much involved in the process
We have had Conner & Buck return for several additional projects and always recommend them to our friends and anyone looking for an excellent construction company.

We hired Conner and Buck to design and build multiple additions to our home. We were under construction for the better part of two and a half years. In many cases, that could be an extremely stressful experience, especially while actually living in the spaces under construction, but working with the Conner and Buck crew was anything but stressful. It was actually very enjoyable. Chris was extremely skilled at guiding us through the process, step by step, not over-stimulating us with too many decisions at once. He also was meticulous about reviewing every detail with the crew and us, as well as overseeing the job from top to bottom several times a week. The crew was neat, respectful, friendly and talented. There was extensive ornamental detail involved in our project and the end results were perfect – from porches to paneling to columns and a fireplace mantel. We absolutely love everything they built, even beyond our expectations. And after all was said and done, we ended up having a great friend in Chris and know that we will always use Conner and Buck for any project we do in the future.
If you are the type of person that enjoys flawless workmanship and seamless transitions from beginning to end, then Conner & Buck is the company that you should choose for any of your contracting needs.

We chose Conner and Buck to renovate, restore and expand our 1820 Federal style farmhouse. The exterior of the house was beautiful, but the interior was dark and dilapidated. It also lacked a place where you could take in the spectacular panoramic views. Our goal was to maintain the original charm and integrity of the home, while creating an interior that incorporated the fantastic surroundings and met the needs of a growing family.Click to read more …

We chose Conner and Buck to renovate, restore and expand our 1820 Federal style farmhouse. The exterior of the house was beautiful, but the interior was dark and dilapidated. It also lacked a place where you could take in the spectacular panoramic views. Our goal was to maintain the original charm and integrity of the home, while creating an interior that incorporated the fantastic surroundings and met the needs of a growing family.
The Conner and Buck team exceeded our expectations. They were meticulous in their attention to detail, and this is evident in every room of the house. Layers and layers of paint were painstakingly peeled away to reveal original woodwork on door and window moldings, fireplace mantels and the stunning center hall staircase. Thick carpeting was removed throughout the house, and original flooring was carefully restored. Thanks to Conner and Buck’s thoughtful approach, we were also able to have original flooring in our new spaces. They discovered useable floorboards in the attic, restored them and reused them in our sunroom and kitchen. Conner and Buck found many interesting artifacts throughout the renovation, and they all found a place in the new interior. The history of this home was literally unburied by the Conner and Buck team and brought back to life.
The attention to detail prevails in the new additions as well. While walking through the home, you cannot distinguish between woodwork crafted in the 19th century, and the new woodwork created by the Conner and Buck team. The level of craftsmanship and artistry among their crew is exemplary. You can also see examples of this on the exterior of our home. In order to add a sunroom and back porch without compromising authenticity or incurring structural damage, the Conner and Buck team had to remove the back wall, very slowly, brick by brick. This painstaking process resulted in a new structure that looks as if it was part of the original home. It is breathtaking.
Just as important as the work are the people behind the work. Chris Conner was our main liaison for this project and his knowledge base is immense. He patiently and thoroughly explained every step of the process, and no concern or question was ever too small for him to personally address. We were always kept well-informed about budget adjustments and time lines. No changes were ever made without our express approval. We were also given plenty of time to order items we needed to supply such as hardware, lighting and appliances. Chris was also very budget conscious when choosing materials and hiring subcontractors; he helped us decide where to splurge and where to save.
The Conner and Buck team approached every aspect of our project with integrity, creativity and thoughtfulness. Their passion for the work is obvious. As much as we loved our home, I think we loved it even more after seeing it through their eyes. We will definitely choose Conner and Buck for all of our future projects.
Sincerely,
Rochelle and Steve

Conner and Buck did a fantastic job. They put our dreams to paper and then turned them into a living reality. They were on budget and on time – how often does that happen in the construction world? More importantly, they were a lot of fun to work with!
